2021 losses

25/03/2021 XX189 Hawk T1A 736 NAS During a sortie with three other Hawks from Culdrose, Cornwall as part of the ‘Thursday War’ and at 15,000ft an oil warning illuminated. A return to Culdrose was initiated but the engine failed when at 650ft. The two crew ejected with the pilot sustaining major injuries. The aircraft crashed near Caervallack Farm, approximately 4 miles east of the base and was destroyed. Loss of oil pressure and subsequent failure of the high pressure compressor bearing caused the engine failure.
